Nissan Engines Might Be Running on Empty. The dealer and manufacturer were notified, they informed that the vehicle was not apart of a recall and the owner would be responsible for the diagnostic charge. I placed a floor jack with a 2' x 1' piece of plywood under the tank, removed the support straps, and lowered the tank enough so I could reach up and disconnect the electrical connector and fuel line hoses from the pump. Note that two connectors are in different sizes, so that you will not be able to reconnect to a wrong terminal. The contact stated that when the gas tank was full, the gauge displayed empty.
My guess is that they are placing the jack directly under the fuel pump when they reinstall the tank. After fueling the vehicle, the contact noticed that the fuel gauge indicated that the tank was empty and the fuel light was illuminated; the service light was also illuminated. Later that day I drove about 35 miles under the aforementioned conditions. The check engine light also illuminated on the instrument panel. Then I get 100 miles and then it drops to like half. The contact stated that the fuel gauge would not display accurate fuel levels. Put the wood between the jack point and the tank.
Andy didn't I read that was a recall but for a different year or different car? The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced. Nissan should have to pay me for the poor gas mileage I get from having to constantly drive with a full fuel tank; because the gas gauge was unreliable. I'm not a person who does car repairs, except for the occasional air filter exchange or switching out my battery when the old one is toast. The middle lines are larger. We do not plan to ever purchase another nissan.
I am not sure as I have not tried to replace it. More recently, the service engine soon light has lit up on my dashboard and stays on constantly. And does anyone else agree that the fuel gauge is not properly scaled? Nissan then replace the gauge cluster and still the problem persisted. Then check under the van if there is any leakage. This results in the vehicle running out of gas in traffic. I don't feel this is fair. Might be a job for my brother-in-law! I was told by the dealer this is a design defect.
This is a significant hazard while on the highway and there are times where a gas station may not be easily accessible. I'm yet to actually get a good estimate of my economy. The vehicle currently has 49,000 miles on it. Finally had fuel pump replaced. Finally, nissan issued a recall and I was unable to take advantage of the replacement because my mileage was over their limit. The tank bulging sounds kind of unusual.
